About

Art, the meaning of life, and other things your mother wishes you didn't care so much about.

Welcome! My name's Melyssa. I like people who are passionate. I like them because when I brush my teeth I think about how if you name any detail in the world, there's probably someone out there who cares more about that one little thing than they do about anything else in the universe. We can't all love everything, but every one of us can love something. That's kind of beautiful, isn't it?

It seems to me that if everyone loved the things that they were given to love, maybe the world would work a bit better.

"Do not ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you
come alive
and then go do it.
Because what the world needs is people who have come alive."
-Howard Thurman

If you have a little thing that you love, you should love it with everything you've got. I think it's important.

This blog is a collection of the little things that matter to me.

Me:

I am a student at a small liberal arts school. I'm studying English, theatre, and getting certified in secondary education. One day I might be dressed in business casual and trying to convince your kids that there's still something worthwhile to be found in Shakespeare's sonnets. I promise I'll keep them entertained.

Until that day, I'm a writer, I act, I take pictures, I read poetry aloud to myself in my bedroom mirror, I save money to travel, I procrastinate, I dream up beautiful ways to furnish the apartment I don't yet have, I am too optimistic, I sing loudly when there's no one in the house, I watch too many crime shows on tv, I memorize cocktail recipes, I shop at thrift stores, I collect experiences, I lurk about in coffee shops, I eat a lot of Greek yogurt,

And it's a little hopeless, how hopeful I am.

Images:

I take the photographs in posts labeled "photography" using an SLR Spotmatic from the 70's. That's right folks, film. Don't steal them! Go take your own pictures, dears, I'm sure you could make something even better.

Other images are usually taken from Deviant Art. When I use an image that isn't mine I always credit the artist with a link back to his/her page at the bottom of my post. I don't use images that artists have specifically asked not be used outside of Deviant Art.

If you see your work on my page, and would like to be credited differently or would rather I remove the image completely, drop me an email at marvelousmelyssa@gmail.com and I'll be sure to straighten things out for you.

My lovely banner was designed for me by the gracious and talented Kyle Cocina. Check out his Deviant Art page - he's one of my very good friends and his work is awesome.
